01/11/02 - Customers interested in motorsport may find the following article from one of our customers interesting:
SCHOLAR 983S
SPORTS 1000 RACING CAR

In January 2002 the 750 Motor Club announced the development of a new sports racing formula called Sports 1000. This new formula is due to take on full championship status in 2003, this year there will be a limited number of demonstrations to introduce the new formula to the race going public.

Since the early 1990's I have been building vintage racing cars and competing in the 750 Trophy championship with some success, in 1996 I won the Bert Hadley championship in a car of my own design. Since September 2000 I have been running a small company specialising in the restoration of vintage and classic, sports and racing cars. My company has developed over the past 18 months into a successful little enterprise, when the sports 1000 formula was announced I realised that it fitted perfectly into the category of work and interest which we already specialise in.

With this new formula in mind we have designed and built a new car. The sports 1000 regulations call for the car to be a sports car, (i.e. a two seater) powered by the BMW K100 motorcycle engine, the formula uses a control slick tyre and can run with wings. The Scholar 983S (which is the name and designation for our car) has been designed and built in house using all the knowledge that we have acquired over many years competing in other cars that I have built. Our car has a steel space frame chassis, which has aluminium floor and side panels riveted to it. The body is made from lightweight glassfibre and has been designed and built by us, the body styling is fully enveloping and has been designed to be aerodynamically efficient whilst maintaining a retro feel. The new car, which has it's engine in the front will be used as a test bed so that I can evaluate my design before we start to build customer cars, we are due to start testing the Scholar 983S soon. The first demon! stration of the new formula was due to be held on the 27th / 28th of July at Silverstone, and subsequent demonstrations
will be run at the remaining 750 Motor Club race meetings throughout 2002.

WHAT NOW

Our intention is to offer the car for sale, with the customer in the driving seat both literally and metaphorically. The car is to be offered in several stages of build from a bare chassis all the way through to a complete car. Because we are a small highly motivated company we can offer a bespoke service for the Sports 1000 enthusiast.
The second generation chassis is being prepared ready for full production, this chassis (as the original prototype chassis) will be made from Cold Drawn seamless steel which is fully bronze welded complete with all brackets and suspension pick up points before being painted using our own custom paint process.
As with the chassis our wishbone set is made 'in house' from CDS tubing, we have designed the suspension for maximum durability, however if the unfortunate happens and replacements are required we have made the wishbone sets interchangeable for economy (i.e. you only need to carry one set of spare wishbones) once again in the interest of economy we only use one size of spherical joint for the car.
The body is made from lightweight fibreglass and comes fully painted in the colour of your choice; custom paint jobs can be supplied but will need to be individually discussed.
We have a large selection of fully tested good 2nd hand engines in stock, which can be supplied at very reasonable cost.
We are ready to start full production of this truly unique sports racing car, get in soon and you could be on the grid for the first race of this exiting new championship.

We believe in spending our hard earned finances on the development of our product, that is why you are reading this flimsy piece of paper and not a full colour brochure, we do however intend to advertise our product on our web site, why not take a look. The full specification and parts list will be appearing as soon as we have the necessary information.
